Dr. లివింగ్ స్టోన్ (1813-1873) ప్రపంచములోనే గొప్పపేరున్న, స్ఫూర్తిదాయక వ్యక్తిత్వంతో ఆఫ్రికాను అన్వేషించిన మిషనరీ. ఈయన 1813 మార్చి 19న స్కాట్లాండ్లోని బ్లాంటైర్ అనే ఊరిలో ఓ సాధారణ కార్మిక కుటుంబంలో జన్మించాడు. పదవ ఏట నుంచే పత్తి కర్మాగారంలో రోజంతా కష్టపడుచూ, రాత్రివేళల్లో చదువును కొనసాగించాడు. ఈయన తండ్రి ఒక నిబద్ధమైన క్రైస్తవుడు కావడం వల్ల, చిన్నప్పటి నుంచే క్రైస్తవ బోధనలు, శాస్త్రంపై ఆసక్తి, ప్రకృతి, ప్రేమ, ఇలా అన్నీ కలిసి ఈయనలో విశ్వాసం మరియు శాస్త్ర విజ్ఞానాన్ని సమన్వయించాలనే ఆకాంక్షను కలిగించాయి. ఈయన గ్లాస్గో నగరంలోని ఆండర్సన్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం, చారింగ్ క్రాస్ ఆసుపత్రిలో వైద్యశాస్త్రం, వేదాంత శాస్త్రాన్ని అభ్యసించాడు. మొదట్లో ఈయన మిషనరీగా చైనాకు వెళ్లాలనుకున్నాడు, కానీ అప్పట్లో జరిగిన అపియం యుద్ధం వలన రద్దయినది.

David Livingstone (1813–1873) was a famous Scottish Christian missionary, best known for his extensive travels in Africa, where he combined his missionary work with exploration. His goals were to bring Christianity, commerce, and civilization to the continent and to help end the African slave trade. Africa, one of the most densely populated and remote continents, remained largely unknown to the outside world for centuries. With little development or exposure to modern civilization, many African tribes lived in isolation, practicing their own unique traditions and customs. These practices were often seen as uncivilized by outsiders. It was Livingstone who ventured deep into the heart of Africa, exploring its vast and hidden landscapes.

ఆండ్రూ జ్యూక్స్ (1847–1931) కెనడాలో జన్మించి, ఇంగ్లాండ్లో విద్యనభ్యసించి, మన దేశమునకు వచ్చి సేవ చేసిన మిషనరీ. ఈయన వైద్యుడిగా క్రైస్తవ మిషనరీ కార్యకలాపాలు, భాషా అభివృద్ధికి గణనీయమైన సేవలందించారు. 1878లో ఈయనను చర్చ్ ఆఫ్ ఇంగ్లాండ్కు చెందిన, చర్చి మిషనరీ సొసైటీ (CMS) వైద్య మిషనరీగా పంజాబ్, సింద్ లో నియమించింది. ఆండ్రూ జ్యూక్స్ దేరా ఘాజీ ఖాన్ లో ఉంటూ చనిపోయేంత వరకు సేవలు అందించారు. ఇక్కడినుండే నేటి పాకిస్తాన్ ప్రాంతమంతా కవర్ చేసేవారు. ఈయన తన జీవితాన్ని స్థానిక పంజాబీ భాషయైన జట్కీ ఉపభాషలో బైబిల్ అనువాదానికి అంకితమై, 1898లో నాలుగు సువార్తలకు అనువాదాన్ని పూర్తిచేశారు.

Andrew Jukes (1847-1931) was a Canadian Anglican missionary and doctor who made significant contributions to Christian missionary work and linguistic development in colonial India. He was appointed in 1878 as a medical missionary by the Church Missionary Society (CMS), one of the principal missionary organizations of the Church of England. He was assigned to the CMS’s Punjab and Sindh mission, which encompassed much of present-day Pakistan, and was stationed at the Baloch mission in Dera Ghazi Khan, where he served until 1906.

టోయోహికో కగావా (1888-1960) ప్రముఖ జపాన్ క్రైస్తవ శాంతికాముకుడు. అహింస, సామాజిక న్యాయం పట్ల ఈయన అచంచలమైన నిబద్ధత కోసం తరచుగా “జపాన్ గాంధీ” అని పిలుస్తారు. కష్టతరమైన బాల్యంలో జన్మించిన ఈయన క్రైస్తవ మతాన్ని స్వీకరించి, సామాజిక అసమానతలను పరిష్కరించడానికి తన జీవితాన్ని అంకితం చేశాడు. ఈయన ప్రసంగాలకు అందరూ కట్టుబడి ఉండుటకు సిద్ధంగా ఉండి మేలు పొందినవారు అనేకులు. ఇదే అదునుగా క్రీస్తు ప్రేమను ప్రకటించి ఎంతోమందిని ప్రభువు వద్దకు నడిపించితిరి. ఎవరైనా దేవుని చూడాలి అనుకొంటే, ఆలయముకన్నా ముందు పేదలను, కష్టాల్లో ఉన్నవారిని దర్శించాలని ఈయన నమ్మేవాడు. ఈయన తన విశ్వాసాన్ని తన క్రియాశీలతకు పునాదిగా ఉపయోగించి పేద వర్గాలలో అవిశ్రాంతంగా పనిచేశాడు.

Toyohiko Kagawa (1888–1960) was a prominent Japanese Christian pacifist and social reformer, often referred to as the “Gandhi of Japan” for his unwavering commitment to nonviolence and social justice. Born into a difficult childhood, he embraced Christianity and dedicated his life to addressing social inequalities. He was deeply involved in labour and cooperative movements, advocating for workers’ rights, women’s suffrage, and peace. He worked tirelessly in impoverished communities, using his faith as a foundation for his activism.

Robert Cotton Mather (1808-1877) was a distinguished European missionary whose life and work left a lasting impact on the Christian mission in India. His heart for missions led him to India in June 1833 through the London Missionary Society (LMS). After initially ministering in Calcutta, he moved to Banaras in 1834. In 1838, Mather established a new mission station in Mirzapur, where he carried out extensive evangelism and ministry despite the challenges of India’s hot climate. With the unwavering support of his wife, Elizabeth, Mather also engaged in literary work, including revising the Urdu Bible translation and producing a Hindi commentary on the New Testament.

Timothy Richard (1845–1919) was a Welsh Baptist missionary to China, who influenced the modernisation of China and the rise of the Chinese Republic. Richard was deeply involved in humanitarian efforts, notably organizing famine relief during the Northern Chinese Famine of 1876–1879. He advocated for social reforms, including anti-foot-binding campaigns and gender equality. He focused on sharing the Gospel not only with common people but also with Chinese intellectuals and reformers. He Promoted a contextualized Christianity, presenting Christian truths in a way that resonated with Chinese philosophical and religious ideas.
