Dr. Samuel Henry Kellogg (1839-1899) was a highly influential Presbyterian missionary to India who played a significant role in revising and retranslating the Hindi Bible. He worked alongside William Hooper and Joseph Arthur Lambert, both of whom were also respected missionaries and scholars. Due to his exceptional command of Hindi and Sanskrit, Kellogg’s contribution to the Hindi Bible was so pivotal that no replacement was appointed after his death to continue his role in the project. He was a prolific author, and his works span theology, linguistics, and comparative religion.

Warren Wendell Wiersbe (1929 – 2019) was a widely respected American Christian pastor and Bible teacher. He is best known for his “BE” series – a set of over 50 Bible commentaries and devotional books such as Be Joyful, Be Obedient, Be Mature, and Be Real, which have helped millions understand and apply the Bible. The BE series cover every book of the Bible and are widely used in evangelical circles for devotional and teaching purposes.

Hermann Gundert (1814 – 1893) was a German missionary, best known for his significant contributions to the Malayalam language and literature. He lived and worked primarily in Tellicherry (now Thalassery) on the Malabar Coast in present-day Kerala. He compiled the first comprehensive Malayalam grammar book, Malayalabhaasha Vyakaranam (1859), and later produced a Malayalam-English dictionary in 1872, both of which played a foundational role in standardizing the language. He was the one who introduced the punctuation marks – full stop, comma, semicolon, colon, and question mark – into the Malayalam language.

Dame Christian Howard (1916 – 1999) was a pioneering British Anglican theologian and advocate for the ordination of women. Born into the aristocratic Howard family of Castle Howard, she devoted her life to theological scholarship, ecumenical engagement, and progressive reform within the Church of England. She was especially known for her role in championing the inclusion of women in ordained ministry, both nationally and globally. She was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1986 New Year Honours for services to the Church of England and the British Council of Churches.

John Foxe (1517-1587) was known for his book Actes and Monuments, also called Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. This book tells the lives of Christians who sacrificed their lives for their faith. It especially includes the stories of 14th-century English Protestants who suffered under the rule of Queen Mary I, also known as Bloody Mary. By portraying the suffering and devotion of the martyrs with heroic vividness, this work helped shape Protestant identity. Fox held firmly to the Protestant faith, not only during the change of monarchs but even when the entire nation was shifting. His writings became a source of inspiration for strengthening the Protestant movement in England.
